Beginning this year, GACS members can sponsor any scholarship they would like. Companies simply donate the funds (at least $1,000), then set the criteria. It is completely tax deductible as a charitable expense. According to Joshua Kimble, a Program Manager from International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS) “Donors can choose to provide scholarships to employees, the children of their employees or both. We work with each client to determine the eligibility criteria and program guidelines to help them meet their program goals.”
Companies can set criteria based upon academic measures, extracurricular activities or they can designate that the recipients come from their own company or any other certain company. Supplier members can designate that retailers only be eligible for their scholarships and vice versa.
